That would seem to be a useful thing, and not just for crosswalks in roadways, but crossings in parking lots.  A higher lighting level triggered by a pedestrian is likely to raise the alert level of drivers at night...

BTW: if these lights are indeed a bright idea, why the need for pilot programs?  There must be some way to leverage Tweets to better illuminate the advantages...</description>
