Google has a company-wide sustainability ethic that most recently has manifested as major investments and research into clean energy and energy efficiency. 1% of Google's equity and yearly profits go to philanthropy -- resources which totaled over $100 million in 2009. Google has its own philanthropic arm, Google.org which is focusing considerable resources on electric cars, smart meters and REmake renewable energy cheaper than coal. As part of this REbreakthrough solar thermal technology that should be available within 1-3 years and is supposed to cut the cost of solar thermal power systems in half.
