Epyon's new fast-chargers at station in The Netherlands
Electric cars are only ever going to be as good as the charging infrastructure in place to support them. Today at a gas station in The Netherlands, Dutch-based Epyon Power unveiled Europe's first commercial fast-charging station for electric vehicles, moving Europe one step closer to its plug-in infrastructure.
Europe seems as if it would be geographically fertile for EV infrastructure because of the proximity of medium and large-sized cities to each other. Epyon CEO Hans Streng called today's opening "a key stepping-stone in the rollout of the European fast-charging infrastructure." ![]()
A single fast-charging station can operate several compact outlets, so multiple EVs can be charged simultaneously from a single charging station. According to Epyon, its powerful 250 kW charging solutions enable charge times of as little as 15 minutes.
The charging station that opened today in The Netherlands and all future stations of Epyon support the international CHAdeMO-standard, an association for the standardization of quick-charging protocols.
Epyon first unveiled their EV charging solution last week alongside the all-electric Nissan LEAF on the car's visited European Tour. Epyon's fast charger will reportedly charge the battery in the LEAF up to 80% within 30 minutes.
