Forget the Organic label--your next box of Frosted Flakes may carry the WindMade stamp of approval.
Founded by Vestas Wind System A/S, PwC, WWF, UN Global Compact, Bloomberg, The LEGO Group, and the Global Wind Energy Council, WindMade is a global consumer label that will help to identify corporations and products made with wind energy. The organization got a big boost with Vestas' announcement in Abu Dhabi this week that it would be sharing its recently awarded Zayed Future Energy Prize for its outstanding leadership to pioneer wind energy.
WindMade intends to create space for the private sector to step up its renewable energy game. They have a forum for consumers to share which brands they want WindMade and are actively looking for companies to contribute insight from the other end. If the WindMade Standard stays on target, it will be introduced on Global Wind Day, June 15, 2011.
Will WindMade join Carbon Zero Certification and fall by the wayside or can it lift other green energies up with its turbines. Like other labels, it faces the challenge of establishing credibility and creating a visual appeal that attracts consumers.
